Humanities Super Seminar (Union College, NY)

Based on a different topic every year, students from all disciplines engage in reading and analyzing visual and written material, deeply challenging conversations, synthesizing ideas, and creating projects, such as podcast interviews, photographic journals, webpage designs, video projects, set designs, sculptures, visual installations, debates and presentations. Each Humanities Super Seminar includes three speakers or a workshop open to the larger Union and Schenectady, NY, community.

The first Humanities Super Seminar held in spring 2012 was on "Global Activism: Hacking, Leaking, and Whistleblowing." The following are tentative titles for future courses.

2012: Global Activism: Hacking, Leaking and Whistleblowing
2013: In Your Face: The Self in the Digital
2014: Medicine & Humanism
2015: The Law of the City
2016: Trauma and Memory
2017: The World Is my Theatre

The most persuasive messages come from the heart and move people.... This class touched on different areas of humanities, but strongly honed in on the importance of language and culture to facilitate activism.... As college students, we are the future, and we have the ability to make a change wherever it may be needed.”
